June 28th was a great day for us at Double Impact, it being the offical launch of the Scunthorpe Recovery Service, a new dedicated space to support individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol dependency. The service was inaugurated by Diane Lee, Director of Public Health, who cut the ceremonial ribbon at an event attended by commissioners, local partners, and members of the recovery community.
The newly refurbished building, generously funded by We Are With You and North Lincolnshire Council, is designed to be a welcoming and versatile space for people in recovery. Sophie Knight, representing We Are With You, joined the celebrations alongside Steve Youdell from the Scunthorpe Recovery Service, expressing excitement about the opportunities the new facility will provide.
“We’re thrilled to be opening this service for the people of Scunthorpe,” said Steve Youdell, Director of Operations at Double Impact. “The building is not just a physical space—it’s a hub of hope and support for those on their recovery journey. It’s a place to connect, grow, and inspire one another to achieve and sustain long-term recovery.”
The Scunthorpe Recovery Service is a membership-based project that offers a range of support services to individuals who are committed to being drug and alcohol-free. Membership is free, and anyone interested in joining can easily sign up and receive a membership card, granting access to a variety of services and activities.
The Scunthorpe Recovery Service aims to empower individuals to build on the positive changes they’ve made and maintain long-term recovery. Members have access to:
- Individual recovery planning
- Personal development planning
- An extensive peer support group programme
- Opportunities for training, volunteering, and work experience
- Connections to a network of like-minded individuals
Members can access as much or as little support as they need, with the freedom to participate at their own pace. The centre is also available to community groups in the evenings and weekends, making it a valuable resource for the wider Scunthorpe area.
Membership is open to anyone who has a commitment to abstinence, whether they are currently in treatment or have completed their treatment journey. Community members who want to support the project’s aims and stay connected as “friends of recovery” can also join by simply providing their name and email address.
“We understand that recovery is a journey, and sometimes there are bumps along the way,” added Steve. “What’s important is having the support and resources to navigate those bumps and stay on the path to a healthier life. We want everyone to feel welcomed and supported here.”
The new centre’s launch marks a significant step forward for recovery support services in Scunthorpe. With its inclusive, membership-based approach, the Scunthorpe Recovery Service aims to be more than just a building—it’s a thriving community where people can find connection, guidance, and inspiration to stay strong in their recovery.
