Graham Miller, Double Impact’s CEO, is attempting to run 20 half-marathons over the next 12 months to reduce stigma and celebrate the charity’s 20th anniversary.
This year’s Robin Hood Half-Marathon will mark the beginning of the campaign to raise the profile of Double Impact’s work and challenge stigma around addiction. Graham will be attempting to run 20 half-marathons around the UK between Sept 2017 and Sept 2018 (that’s one half-marathon on average every 18.5 days) as part of the celebrations marking the charity’s 20th Birthday in May 2018.
Graham (aged 54) has been with the charity since Day 1, when he was the only member of staff working from a small office within the Nottingham YMCA. Double Impact was the brainchild of a former addict who recognised the need for support around education and housing for people trying to recover (hence the ‘double impact’ of the name),and has grown to employ 53 people, delivering projects and services in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. It also runs a social enterprise, Café Sobar, which provides work experience and a safe place to socialise for people in recovery.
"I’m excited to have the opportunity to promote the work we do – addiction can be a difficult cause to fundraise for, especially when in competition with so many other good causes out there – but get talking to anyone and they will tell you of someone they know whose life has been blighted by addiction – the good news is that people can and do recover. That’s the message I want to help get out there."

Graham intends to run half-marathons in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The first six are already in the diary – Nottingham on the 24th of September followed closely by Glasgow and Birmingham on the 1st and 15th of October – then Worksop, Keyworth’s ‘Turkey Trot’ and the new Nottingham half-marathon at Holme Pierrepont.
After those there will only be 14 more to go!
GET INVOLVED
Graham is keen to invite others to support the appeal by running on behalf of Double Impact in the final half-marathon, the Robin Hood in Nottingham on Sunday 30th September 2018.
"It would be absolutely amazing to have a team of runners out there on the day, running for recovery and helping to break down stigma!"
Please contact us if you would like to be kept informed of opportunities to get involved.
