Café Sobar to provide Braille & large print menus

Café Sobar are proud to be one of the few city centre eateries to provide Braille and large print menus for the visually impaired, after partnering up with My Sight Nottinghamshire. Jason, our restaurant manager, says:

"It’s always been a priority to do everything we can to ensure different communities within Nottingham feel welcomed and included here at Café Sobar. This is another important step in making our venue accessible to as many people as possible."

The café has already improved access to the venue for those with mobility issues and families with pushchairs by installing automatic doors. Since the café and entertainment venue opened in January 2014, it’s seen a rise in the diverse community & social groups visiting and using the facilities. Jason says:

"It’s great to provide another service on top of the range of events we offer to a number of different communities, such as #CuppaSocial, the monthly social media drop in with Status Social, and Tea & Tots – our monthly meet up for anyone who’s in charge of a child and/or baby!"

Café Sobar worked closely with My Sight Nottinghamshire’s Angela Phillips in the bid to launch a selection of menus at Café Sobar, to help people with visual impairments feel more relaxed and at ease.

"We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Café Sobar on the introduction of new Braille and large print menus,"

said Angela Phillips, Services Manager at My Sight Notts.

"Café Sobar is a great community resource in the heart of the city and providing menus in Braille and large print will ensure it’s accessible to the visually impaired community too."

My Sight Nottinghamshire, formerly Nottinghamshire Royal Society for the Blind (NRSB),is the only charity dedicated exclusively to improving the lives of people living with sight loss in Nottinghamshire, providing support services, leisure opportunities, information and advice to thousands of local visually impaired people and their families.

Says Jason of the collaboration:

"It’s the perfect partnership – as a social enterprise ourselves, it’s important for us to partner with other local charities to work on important social issues across Nottingham."
