Liam's story

For several years i had dipped in and out of recovery meetings. But still, as an active addict and homeless, I never received the true benefit or gained the understanding needed to fully engage with the process of recovery.  On the 30th of September 2020, I used heroin for the final time and entered sobriety on the 1st of October. In November of that year, I reconnected with Boston Recovery Pathways in preparation for a new way of life.

As this was at the height of the covid pandemic face to face meetings were not being held. I was offered the chance of online meetings and found the few I attended helped keep me sober. As 2021 came around I moved into a new property. And with this new sense of well-being and responsibility, I manage to continue to remain sober.
I found a new way of living and continued on my journey of rediscovery. Around October of that year, I had achieved a year of drug and alcohol-free time. But I started to recognise I needed to do more for my recovery and I was ready for a new challenge.

The world had opened up again and the chance of face-to-face meetings presented itself. I began to reconnect, and it was at this time I was offered the chance of attending the Double Impact Academy mentor program. I started attending groups such as SMART and ACT learning skills to aid in my recovery. As well as Start the week and Something for the weekend. Both helping to plan out my time and keeping me clean. Throughout the staff were constantly supportive and offered encouragement along the way.

It is now August 2023 and as I approach my third year of being clean from heroin, I have finished the Mentor Program and become a Recovery Service Volunteer. I now volunteer once a week at Boston Recovery Pathways and one day at Double Impact in Lincoln and to my amazement am helping other people in their recoveries.
The staff have always been kind, considerate and empathetic. They guide, encourage and are positive in aiding you to maintain your sobriety. I owe a massive debt of gratitude to Boston Recovery Pathways and Double Impact and know I would not be where I am today without them.
